''Sweet success: A Beginner's Guide on Growing Pineapples at Home!"

Updated: Apr 29, 2024

Here's a simple guide:

  1. Choose a Pineapple Top:

    • Select a healthy pineapple from a store.

    • Cut off the crown (top with leaves) about half an inch below the leaves.

  2. Prepare the Crown:

    • Remove lower leaves from the crown to expose the stem.

    • Let it dry for a few days to allow the cut end to callus.

  3. Planting:

    • Use a well-draining potting mix.

    • Plant the crown in the soil, burying the base up to the leaves.

    • Water the soil thoroughly but avoid overwatering.

  4. Provide Sunlight:

    • Place the pot in a sunny spot with indirect sunlight.

    • Pineapples love sunlight; ensure they receive at least six hours of indirect sunlight daily.

  5. Watering and Care:

    • Water the plant regularly but avoid waterlogging the soil.

    • Fertilize every few months with a balanced fertilizer.

  6. Patience:

    • It takes time for a pineapple to grow. It may take 2-3 years before it fruits.

  7. Harvesting:

    • When the plant matures, a fruit will emerge from the center.

    • Once the fruit is ripe (it turns golden and has a sweet aroma), cut it off.

Growing pineapples is a patient process, but it's fascinating to watch the plant develop and eventually produce its fruit!

I got a baby pineapple plant from Lowe’s in Utah that already had a tiny pineapple growing on it. It was green and standing straight at Lowe’s. Within a couple days of bringing it home, it has already started to turn yellow and is tipping over instead of standing straight like it was.

What do you think went wrong? It’s not growing anymore and is just ripening now. We will obviously just be having a baby pineapple. I just want to know what went wrong.

Thanks!

It was in the store with cool conditions. It’s just been in my house with similar conditions. The pineapple is also starting to smell ripe as well and so I am not sure if I can do anything to stop the ripening process.
